Excellent beach read. Good strong woman protagonist who I genuinely was pulling for. A classic in terms of "I wish I knew then what I know now". I think it will appeal to many women who know that life doesn't always turn out the way they want it to. The characters are well drawn and varied and there are some seriously laugh out loud moments, as well as some "naughty bits". Touches all the bases in terms of story line, emotional pull, and character development.

Great romance, college recollections, and sex. Also excellent thoughts about being overweight, bad parenting, and depression. Real gut level emotions and even a happy ending!
I'm happy to write this review because I loved the book. It had just the right amount of steamy sex, mystery, and fun.
I found that I had to leave the "quiet train" on Amtrack while reading it as I could not help but LOL.
I particularly liked the main character what a "hoot". I've recommended Letting Myself Go to many family and friends.
I wish this new author wellness and can't wait to see what is next from her.

Didn't like the book at all. Read it all the way through because it was recommended to me, but very poorly written. For her first novel, I'll give her credit for writing it (I haven't written a book!!), but really had to slosh through it. All she ever did was complain, complain, complain about her upbringing and childhood, and it got really old. Repeated the theme throughout the entire book! The ending was trite and predictable, but as I said, "Hey, at least she's writing, and published, too!"
I just loved this book. I could really relate to so many things that the writer put so well. At one point had to put the book aside since I wasn't getting anything done so talk about wanting to cruise through a book in one fail swoop. You'll love the characters and appreciate life, regrets, struggles especially from a woman's point of view. Very nice composition of story, characters and funny laugh out loud narrative from Elaine's perspective. Spicy sex pieces that a woman will appreciate and a man could be enlightened from Get the book and enjoy. KL

Great summer read with a happy ending. Laney is complex character who never gives up on finding her first love. She chases something that a lot of women only dream about. The humor sprinkled throughout the book is self-deprecating, thoughtful and outright funny at times. Laney will make you laugh and cry as she struggles with her weight, lousy parents, and simply starting over. I enjoyed every turn of the page!
I wish that books were written with less descriptive sexual content....but I am old and today's authors cater to younger women. The book was well written and I would recommend it to anyone under 50!
